These Portobello Mushrooms were cultivated sustainably and organically without the use of any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. They are quite large in terms of size and have a smooth, rounded, brown cap. Underneath it are dark brown, fleshy gills and a fibrous, dense stem. They are very low in calories and contains good levels of protein and essential amino acids. They are also loaded with excellent levels of B-complex vitamins and the minerals copper, selenium, phosporus, zinc and potassium.
When cooked, Portobello Mushrooms give a chewy, meaty texture, and a smoky, earthy flavor. They are best for broiling, sauteing and grilling. They can be grilled whole - perfect for vegetarian burgers, and chopped and mixed in salads, soups, sauces and as toppings.
