To commemorate Healthy Options’ 30th anniversary, I asked our 200+ Healthy Options (HO) angels to share their stories, insights, and why they stay. Their stories will be included in a special Anniversary Souvenir book which shall be given to each employee at the end of the year. On the verge of giving up then I was made a regular employee. Healthy Options became more than just a workplace, it became my second home. From the many sleepless nights, constant changes, tough challenges, and to my unforgettable milestone of bringing my family to Hong Kong (two years after HO’s HK trip, thanks to RSS) every moment shaped who I am today. Being a part of HO has taught me the value of perseverance, teamwork, and passion for what we do. Cheers to our 30th year and to more years of a brighter future!

It has been ten beautiful years. Looking back fills my heart with deep gratitude and pride. My journey has been more than just about wearing many hats—it’s been about facing challenges, embracing learning curves, and seizing opportunities I never imagined. Why have I stayed? Because I’ve seen how what we do creates a real impact—not just for the business, but in people’s lives and in the environment we care about. Because I know that time and experience will continue to teach us how to become better, how to do more, and I can’t unsee that potential—and I want to remain a part of it. When I joined Healthy Options in 2000, the company had just celebrated its fifth anniversary. There wasn’t much in terms of infrastructure but there was already something special in the culture—something genuine. What sets this company apart from the previous company that I worked with, is how management genuinely takes care of its people—at the same level we’re expected to care for our customers. That balance of excellence and empathy is rare, and it’s what made me stay. As we celebrate Healthy Options’ 30th anniversary, I want to say thank you Healthy Options, you have changed a lot of people’s lives—customers, partners, and employees.

I remember, in my early months at Healthy Options, I attended a company event for the first time where RSS and CDT gave their always-awaited speeches. Something about what they said moved me and brought back a memory from my 4th grade—standing on the stage to receive honors recognition, but completely clueless and not at all concerned about what my future would hold. The year was 1995, and unknowingly, Healthy Options was already being built. My future was already taking shape. Happy 30th anniversary, Healthy Options. Reflecting on everything now, I realize just how deeply Healthy Options has impacted my life—not just professionally, but personally as well. This company goes beyond simply offering jobs; it nurtures growth, encourages self-discovery, and creates space for people to thrive. When I just stared, at Healthy Options, I never thought of stepping up to be a leader as I never saw myself as one. Then the Leadership Development Program happened. I was inspired by RSS and CDT’s ways of changing people’s lives. I then told myself that I need to get out of my comfort zone and try to apply for the LDP. I am so overwhelmed with gratitude because they do not just pay us, but they also help us be a better version of ourselves. HO gives everyone an opportunity to learn new things, and they are never selfish with training and education. Being a Healthy Options angel has not always been easy; the reality is that we work in retail. Long hours on our feet, late nights, long commutes, dealing with different kinds of customers, reaching sales goals, and now leadership—balancing the physical, mental, and emotional demands of your team and work all at once. But Healthy Options has also allowed me and my family to invest in many things: good health, mindful choices, a safe and beautiful home, financial security, and a brighter future for my own family. But beyond these, I realize now that staying this long at Healthy Options is more than just a paycheck. It has given me a deep sense of home, growth, and purpose in my very first job—one that I continue to embrace as my way of giving back to the brand. As I celebrate my twelve years of service, I want to congratulate Healthy Options for continuously living out its vision through its customers and for generously sharing success with its people. I remember being invited to HO’s anniversary celebration 12 years ago just as an applicant who got introduced to everyone that day. I was amazed seeing your angels singing and dancing, 12 years later, I am already part of the regular jamming sessions. I honestly had a different reason for joining, but learning the culture, the mission and vision made me realize how much I also wanted to contribute to other people’s lives. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies being here. We also had our down times and doubts, but what made me decide to return is knowing I have a family and purpose here. I know I’ll miss the hustle and bustle of being in the frontline, the customers who were looking for me, the team whom I know is waiting for me to be back, and I know I won’t find bosses like RSS and CDT. At first, I admit that I wasn’t a 100% true believer because I saw my job as just work and focused on building a career for myself. But over time, witnessing how our products genuinely improve people’s lives, seeing the loyalty of our customers, and working alongside passionate teammates made me realize the deeper purpose behind what we do. I stayed because I saw growth, not just in my role, but in myself. The environment challenged me to be more responsible, more patient, and more aware of how I carry myself. It’s not perfect, but the people I work with and the values we promote make it worth showing up every day. And I came back because I know the company needs me! When I first started working in Healthy Options, I often felt unsure about myself and my abilities. The pressure of handling customers and meeting expectations sometimes made me doubt if I was truly capable. But during those moments, I was blessed to have people around me who guided and supported me. In February 2025, I was offered an opportunity to work in Japan. At first, it sounded like an exciting and promising chance for new experiences, a different culture, and a fresh career path. I decided not to pursue the opportunity and chose to stay with the company. It was not an easy decision, but it was the right one because I believe in the Healthy Options vision, and I want to continue to be part of its growth and success.
Almira de Guzman (2017) – Customer Advisor 3
Our vision of empowering people to take care of their own health deepened my awareness on the importance of practicing healthy habits which also greatly influenced my family, relatives, and friends. Starting as a frontline in 1997, I slowly rose from the rank to executive level as Healthy Options grew. I’m grateful to have the owners, RSS and CDT who are generous in investing in training, both locally and internationally. I’m immensely proud to be part of Healthy Options from our small branch in EDSA Shangri-La Plaza mall when I first joined to 38 branches today and growing. During the pandemic, I became even more thankful to Healthy Options. The company provided free carpool transportation for employees, especially those of us living in Bulacan. This not only helped us save on commuting expenses but also protected us from exposure to crowds, preventing potential health risks at a time when COVID-19 was spreading rapidly. HO truly prioritized our health and cared deeply about the well-being of our families, and our customers during that challenging period. Beyond physical wellness, what truly inspires me to stay are the strong connections I’ve built with customers. Many of them regularly look for me, trust my recommendations, and even share their personal stories. I’ll forever be grateful to Healthy Options for believing in me, especially as a fresh graduate who was given the chance to start even before my graduation ceremony. It has been such a rollercoaster ride, and I’ve learned so much both professionally and personally. Joining HO truly changed my life in the best way. What made me stay? The values, the brand, and most of all, the people. I always feel proud to say I work here. I also admire how HO genuinely cares for its people. It’s something that truly sets the company apart. Being with Healthy Options for the past 6 years has truly been a privilege. This company has played a significant role in my personal and professional growth especially in shaping me as a leader. Healthy Options has also helped me support my parents and I’ve always felt the company’s support during times of need. Thanks to the opportunities I’ve received here, I was able to buy a car for my parents and make minor renovations to our home in Pampanga after we were affected by the calamity in 2020. Arriane Ricafort-Dela Cruz (2019) – Baking Therapy Operations Manager
The time that made me appreciate Healthy Options the most was during the pandemic. While many companies were closing and letting go of employees, Healthy Options chose to protect and care for its people. Carpool services were provided when public transportation was unavailable. Company facilities were opened to house employees who lived far away—complete with food, water, sleeping quarters, and everything we needed to feel safe. Most importantly, not a single employee was laid off, even when sales were down. In that difficult season, I felt the genuine love and compassion of Healthy Options—not just for regular staff, but also for probationary and agency workers. I started my journey with Healthy Options in 2011—a year that truly changed my life. At that time, I was only twenty two years old, a new mom and just beginning my first full-time job after graduating from college. Over the years, HO became more than just a workplace. I was inspired by the leadership, empowered by the culture, and motivated by the trust placed in me. Healthy Options is unique in the way HO angels collaborate and talk to each other, always looking out for the entire company. I’ve rarely, if ever, heard anyone at HO decide or do something that prioritizes their own well-being over the greater good of our company. The people is what makes HO an endlessly exciting workplace. There’s always a lot more we can do to be better. There are always people who are willing to go to the trenches with each other, to push each other to do better, to remain aligned with our vision, yet be reliably there when they need each other most. Crystal Callano-Lee (2017) – Category Manager
I began my journey with Healthy Options in May 1999 as part of the “Mother’s Day Club,” and looking back, I am truly grateful for the opportunities, lessons, and experiences I’ve gained through the years. Healthy Options has taught me how to work with people from different walks of life, and in the process, I learned how to listen, understand, and work effectively with people of diverse personalities. Healthy Options has also been a blessing to my personal life. Because of the stability and opportunities it gave me, I was able to provide for my family, ensure that all my children finished their studies, and make investments that continue to support us today. Healthy Options also gave me many memorable “firsts”—my first travels, my first car, and milestones that I will always treasure with gratitude. As my Healthy Options family celebrates its 30th year, I am proud to be part of this milestone and to have shared in its journey of growth and excellence. I started my journey with Healthy Options back in 2014. It was my very first professional job and the place where I truly began to build my career. Over the years, I learned so much, not just about health and wellness, but about professionalism, purpose, and working with a company that genuinely cares. In 2021, I made the tough decision to move on. But something about Healthy Options always stayed with me, the culture, the mission, and the meaningful impact we make every day. That’s why in October 2024, I made the decision to come back. And honestly, it feels amazing to return stronger, wiser, and more committed than ever. Being with Healthy Options for the past 15 years has not only shaped my career but it has completely transformed my life and family, especially through my journey as a Wellness Ambassador. As I learned more about the power of proper nutrition, quality supplements, and making intentional choices, everything changed. I started using my Monthly Product Allowance (MPA) for supplements and grocery items in my daily routine, and the difference in my energy, focus and overall well-being was undeniable. More importantly, I began applying what I learned at home and started feeding my children more wholesome meals and farm produce available at our store. Vangie Chim (2010) – Customer Supervisor
When I raised open the roll-up door of our Shangri-La store on its very first day (October 27, 1995), I never thought Healthy Options would grow into what it is today and that I would still be around to witness it. I bore witness to celebrating Christmas parties at mall restaurants in the first few years then to the ballrooms at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel beginning 2003. I am thankful for all the travel opportunities over the years. I got to meet all kinds of people and visit places that I wouldn’t have visited on my own. I also got my first taste in business class flying to the US. Years back, I got my first iPhone 4 from a raffle at our Thanksgiving party, and then another iPhone 12 on my twentieth year. Healthy Options demands us to give our best, but Healthy Options also gives its best to take care of us, and I’m glad I’ve been around for as long as I have to have been part of its greatest journey.

At first, it was just a job for me. I came in, did the work, and went home. But over time, I started seeing how my work actually helped others with their health and how the team supported each other. I became a true believer when I realized that the values here aren’t just words. They show up in how the company treats us and how we grow together. That made me feel like I belonged and had a purpose. HO is different. The company genuinely cares. What made me stay for eleven years is the people and the culture. At Healthy Options, it feels like there’s a real balance. Expectations are high, but so is the level of support. There’s room to make mistakes and learn. I’ve stayed because I feel valued. I’m challenged, but I’m also encouraged. The culture isn’t perfect, but it’s real and that makes all the difference.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of sharing how I’ve been a believer in the brand since I was about 13 years old, when my classmates would ask me what new snack to try at Healthy Options. I always loved stepping into the store and taking my time exploring the aisles. Now, more than two years into my role, I’ve discovered that this same joy is shared by thousands of customers—and I feel very glad and proud to now be on the other side of that experience, making sure our customers always have a pleasant visit and keep coming back. As this is my first job, I don’t have a direct basis for comparison against other companies. But one thing I can confidently say is that it’s incredibly motivating to be in a challenging yet fun environment where we are encouraged to grow personally and also see the real impact of our work on people’s lives. I feel proud whenever someone asks me where I work and I get to say, “Healthy Options.” I wish the company many more years of success, and I truly look forward to the day when I can bring little ones of my own to Healthy Options.

Healthy Options is my first corporate job, and if I’m being honest—it’s hard to leave and so easy to stay, because of the people I work with and the environment we have here.
